ABOUT TERRY DOYLE

Terry Doyle is an author, educational consultant and professor emeritus of reading at Ferris State University where he worked for 38 years. Terry has given over 250 presentations and keynote addresses at regional, national and international conferences and has worked with faculty on more than 400 campuses around the world.

His presentations focus on ways to assist higher education faculty in becoming learner centered teachers and how faculty can apply new findings from neuroscience, biology and cognitive science in their teaching to improve students’ learning.
The 2nd edition of Terry's 2013 book The New Science of Learning was published in 2019 and has become the best selling book in Stylus Publishing history. The New Science of Learning: How to Learn in Harmony with Your Brain was a finalist for the USA Best Book Award for 2013 in the category of Education/Academics. A new book, also coauthored with Dr. Todd Zakrajsek, titled Teaching for Deep Learning is due out Spring of 2021 also from Stylus.

Terry is the author of two additional books also focused on the application of neuroscience, biology and cognitive science to teaching and learning all published by Stylus. The first, Helping Students Learn in a Learner Center Environment: A Guide to Teaching in Higher Education, 2008, has just been translated into Chinese. His 2011 book, Learner Centered Teaching: Putting the Research into Practice was featured in the Chronicle of Higher Education's Selected New Books in Higher Education in 2012. Terry also co-authored the book New Faculty Transition -An Ideal Program published in 2004.
